Navman Wireless Identifies Underused Vehicles In Large Fleets
Glenview IL (SPX) Apr 24, 2009 Navman Wireless North America announced today that its OnlineAVL2 vehicle tracking and logistics system now has the ability to pinpoint vehicles that are being underused, based on travel distance and ignition time thresholds set by the fleet manager. This information, contained in the software's new Out of Service report, can be used to make policy changes that improve vehicle productivity or reduce costs by decommissioning underperforming trucks or vans. The new report displays average daily distance, average daily ignition time, average daily number of trips, total distance and total ignition time for all vehicles that fail to meet the designated thresholds during any reporting period defined by the fleet manager, indicating that those vehicles were 'out of service' during that time frame. Overall averages for each metric can be displayed by either vehicle or vehicle group. The upgrade is the second OnlineAVL2 enhancement designed for large fleets to be introduced in the last 90 days. The previously added Executive Summary report consolidates key performance indicators for multiple vehicle groups and/or an entire fleet on a single screen, providing a valuable snapshot of fleet productivity that can guide managers in establishing cost, fuel and vehicle usage controls. "Identifying underutilized vehicles in a larger fleet has always been a challenge. If a vehicle is lagging behind on road time, you can't detect that in a fleet-wide performance report," said Renaat Ver Eecke, Vice President, Navman Wireless North America. "Our new Out of Service report analyzes performance at the vehicle level and steers managers directly to the trucks or vans that aren't keeping up with the rest of the fleet. This is a vital first step to optimizing operations for individual vehicles." The Out of Service reporting feature is included with new OnlineAVL2 purchases at no extra charge and provided as a free upgrade to current customers, either on request or during the next scheduled automatic software update. All reports can be configured to run automatically on a designated schedule and emailed to specific users. This latest upgrade to OnlineAVL2 extends the system's ability to help fleet managers reduce expenses, increase fleet productivity and improve customer service. The combination of the OnlineAVL2 desktop application and the companion Qube vehicle-mounted satellite tracking device delivers advanced features such as wide area mapping down to the street level, the ability to identify individual drivers, polygonal geofence functionality for defining driver territories, robust two-way messaging options, and the market's most comprehensive real-time and historical vehicle/driver activity reporting.
