INRIX Traffic Selected For New Pennsylvania Traveller Info Service
Kirkland WA (SPX) Jun 01, 2009 INRIX has announced a contract with Telvent to provide additional traffic information for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's forthcoming 511 service. Through the new agreement, INRIX will provide real-time traffic data, traffic flow information and travel times for key routes on nearly 800 miles of Pennsylvania roadway in the Harrisburg, Scranton, Allentown, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia metropolitan areas. INRIX now provides traffic data to departments of transportation and other agencies in 12 states, covering more than 5,000 centerline miles of road. Telvent and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation selected INRIX for this project, building upon INRIX's provision of traffic data in the commonwealth through the I-95 Corridor Coalition Vehicle Probe Project - the nation's largest private traffic data contract. The expanded roadways for which INRIX will provide traffic information for "511 Pennsylvania" will also be available for monitoring and integration by neighboring states and all member agencies of the I-95 Corridor Coalition to better plan and coordinate regional travel information provision and agency response to incidents. Telvent will integrate INRIX's traffic data into "511 Pennsylvania," which will be available to the public this summer via the Internet and a free 511 telephone number. "We are excited to see our traffic data expand across Pennsylvania," said Rick Schuman, vice president public sector, INRIX. "The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's choice to tap INRIX speaks to the revolution taking place in the use of traffic flow data by transportation agencies." INRIX Real-Time Traffic is available to over 250 million people across 126 metropolitan North American markets and covers 160,000 miles of roads in North America. The traffic technology company is able to provide the nation's broadest and most accurate real-time traffic information by leveraging the INRIX Fusion engine which intelligently blends real-time data from over one million GPS-enabled taxis, service vehicles, airport shuttle services and other commercial vehicles as well as consumer cellular GPS-based devices and traditional road sensor information.
