FAST FIND Range Of Personal Locator Beacons
St. Paul MN (SPX) Feb 23, 2009 Digital Angel has announced the launch of FAST FIND, a new range of personal locator beacons produced by its McMurdo unit. The product line was unveiled at the Miami International Boat Show. Digital Angel Chief Executive Officer Joseph J. Grillo commented, "We believe that the new FAST FIND Satellite Personal Location Beacon (PLB) range of products offers the most compact, waterproof and versatile 406 MHz emergency location beacon available on the market today. At a price point of $299 or less we are able to offer this life-saving technology to an ever broader range of boating and other outdoor sports enthusiasts." FAST FIND weighs only 5.3 oz (150g) and with dimensions of 1.34" (34mm) x 1.85" (47mm) x 4.17" (106mm) it will slip into the smallest pocket or backpack compartment. The user can deploy it in the most remote locations around the world, on land, at sea or in the air, and be confident of being able to contact the world's professional search and rescue services directly if necessary. Complying with rigorous federal and international standards, FAST FIND operates on the global COSPAS SARSAT 406MHz search and rescue satellite communication system, which is supported by international government search and rescue authorities around the world. FAST FIND is subscription-free and does not rely on commercial call centers. There are two models in the FAST FIND PLB range, the FAST FIND 200 and the FAST FIND 210, both to be priced at $299 or less. The 210 has integral 50-channel GPS for additional pinpoint location, further speeding up time of location. All FAST FIND models transmit two signals simultaneously, one to the subscription-free global 406 MHz satellite system, and the other a 121.5MHz frequency homing signal designed to speed up the local recovery response process. Once activated, FAST FIND's signals will continue to transmit for at least 24 hours at a powerful 5-watt output. The 406 MHz transmission frequency ensures that a call for help gets through whatever the weather conditions. FAST FIND also includes a unique SOS LED flashlight facility which is manually activated to further assist in speeding up the user's recovery during night-time rescues. FAST FIND will operate in temperatures down to -20 degrees c and its integral battery has a storage life of 5 years. FAST FIND must be registered with the U.S. Commerce Department's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) by the user at the time of purchase. This enables the search and rescue authorities, through the unique coded characteristics of the transmitted signal, to identify the owner of the FAST FIND and provides further important information such as next of kin and contact details which can be vital to speeding up the necessary rescue response by the authorities.
