The British military is now in possession of a forward air control simulator and training system it ordered last year from Selex ES and Close Air Solutions.
The Immersive Close Air Support Simulator, or iCASS, system delivered to the Ministry of Defense provides forward air controllers with a high-fidelity, immersive training environment and features an after-action review capability.
"Synthetic systems offer excellent value for money support to scarce live air assets for delivering forward air controller training both now and particularly in the future." said Royal Air Force Group Capt. Mark Gorringe, Chief of Staff, Joint Air Land Organization HQ Air Command. "Synthetic systems are acknowledged as offering better FAC training than live aircraft in some scenarios, and equally as effective in many other instances."
Gorringe said the system will complement existing FAC training by the Ministry of Defense's Joint Forward Air Control Training and Standardization Unit.
The Ministry ordered the system last November.
