CSG Systems Integrates ComSonics GPS Capabilities
Englewood CO (SPX) Nov 20, 2008 CSG Systems has announced it has formed a partnership with ComSonics, an industry-leading provider of GPS and cable management solutions. Through the new partnership, CSG and ComSonics have combined CSG's industry-leading Workforce Express application and ComSonics' GENACIS hardware to provide a fixed-vehicle GPS solution for communications service providers. The solution maps a service technician's vehicle location and integrates it with the appropriate customer order information, providing new ways to manage and optimize a mobile fleet of technicians. The combination of solutions offers several opportunities to reduce operational costs and improve efficiency. For example, companies using fixed-vehicle GPS technology have seen an increase in customers served each day because of the ability to track the locations of vehicles in real-time. Integrated GPS allows dispatch personnel to verify and analyze routes and improve decision making. In addition, service providers can reduce fuel cost by monitoring excessive or lengthy vehicle idling. The solution prevents data loss and maintains data integrity in the event the wireless connection is intermittently lost by continuously collecting and storing data via the onboard memory. The GENACIS device is fully automated and does not require any human interaction to minimize errors and provide optimal performance. "Because the two solutions are integrated, our clients have a complete picture of field workforce information in one place, enabling them to make better decisions about routing technicians and overall fleet operations to the benefit of both the service provider and end consumers," said Dwayne Ruffin, Senior Vice President of Product Management at CSG Systems. "These solutions together can also drive new operational cost savings. With today's high fuel costs, a 30 minute per day reduction in vehicle idling alone will produce a savings of $390,000 in fuel cost annually for every 1,000 vehicles on the road." "ComSonics is excited to work with CSG in an effort to bring infrastructure consolidation and operational efficiency to our joint customers," said Dennis Zimmerman, President and CEO, ComSonics. "This is the first step in our vision to unify applications in the field by creating a common infrastructure platform. We will continue to work together to further integrate workforce management applications with devices in the field to further enhance the benefits to our customers." CSG's Workforce Express is the most widely used workforce management solution in the cable industry, helping more than 33,000 technicians to be more efficient when servicing customers in their homes and businesses. This solution addresses one of the most costly and complex aspects of the service provider's business - getting the right technician, to the right location, at the right time. CSG Workforce Express allows dispatchers and field technicians to access and efficiently complete installation and service-oriented tasks and send field updates back to the home office using wireless devices. The CSG and ComSonics technologies are fully integrated and available today. Related Links CSG Systems GPS Applications, Technology and Suppliers
